Hello Gentlemen, hello Clippers,
does anybody of you know by chance the ICAO code of the Sikorsky S-40? I was unable to find it in the web, and Sikorsky has not answered my e-mail yet.
Your feedback is most appreciated.

I just use S40, not sure if that's correct but its what I use. Most of the time I put "amphibious twin prop" im my comments so the controllers don't think I'm a helicopter.

Thanks for your input, Thomas.
"S40" is what I would have guessed as well due to the fact, that the S-38 uses "S38", and furthermore the S-42 uses "S42" as ICAO codes. Unfortunately, I have not found any prove for the use of "S40" yet.
I need that ICAO code for our improved route database.

After some digging around on the net i found some answers for ya. There is no ICAO code for the S-40. There were only three (3) S-40s build. They started service November 19, 1931 and all three were retired at the end of the second World War. (end of 1945) The ICAO wasn't around until 1947, the planes were no longer around when the ICAO came about, therefor no ICAO code for the "Baby Clipper"

It's true: the Sikorsky S-40 was introduced in 1931. Only three were produced, all for Pan Am: NC80V "American Clipper", NC81V "Carribean Clipper and NC752V "Southern Clipper".
The S-40 was the first aircraft which obtained the title "Flying Clipper".
What I was not aware of is, that the ICAO system did not exist at this time, though it is a logical explanation for the missing code of the S-40.
